About our Search Engine
You're probably here about our search engine project. If so, you're probably a webmaster who saw our site listed in your log file. You may be curious. You may be considering blocking us. Who knows?
We are working on a special project that can best be described as a 'domain search engine' (or 'website search engine') as opposed to a webpage search engine. Often, you're looking for a fact or details, where a webpage is exactly what you want. Other times, you're looking for a website. Internet search engines do an amazing job finding webpages for you, but often lack at finding smaller websites. That's where we fit in.

- What is the name of your search engine?
It doesn't have one yet! We're still working on that. :)
- What is the name of your User-agent?
Our bot is called 'ParchBot'. As of thise writing, the User-agent: HTTP header is 'User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible;+ParchBot/1.0;++http://www.parchmenthill.com/search.htm)'.
- You weren't using a valid User-agent:
For some test runs, we didn't. We hope that didn't cause any problems. We've got it in there now.
- Do you honor robots.txt?
Yes. Chances are, you aren't going to block us (we typically get blocked by the catch-all '*', indiciating that no bots are welcome, unless any are specifically mentioned otherwise). But if you wish to, our bot is called ParchBot.
- What about rate limiting?
We are being very careful about not hitting any domains too frequently. If you do have an issue, please let us know.
- What is the goal of your project?
The goal is to make it very easy for people to find websites they are looking for (rather than specific webpages). If you're looking for the website for a large company, it's usually easy to find. For small to mid size companies or organizations, it's often much more difficult (sometimes nearly impossible).
